Abstract

This is an overview of options by which forest management contributes to the mitigation of climate change effects. We follow the wood from harvest to its final energy use. By supply of wood, forest management can substitute 6 to 8 tons CO2 ha–1 yr–1 of fossil fuel emissions while under non-management conditions storage of carbon compensates fossil fuel emissions without reducing fossil fuel use.
